Islanders are being thanked for taking the time to have their say in this year’s waste and recycling survey.
More than 600 responses were received by the Isle of Wight Council during December and January — an increase on the previous survey.
The annual customer satisfaction questionnaire asked for views on services currently provided and any ideas on how the Island can recycle more and reduce its waste.
Among the survey’s findings were:
- 80.6 per cent of residents are satisfied with the service at the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) — up from 79.8 per cent the year before;
- there is a big increase in satisfaction regarding the booking system at the HWRCs at 75.4 per cent, up from 64.1 per cent previously;
- 79 per cent of respondents are satisfied with the food waste service;
- Just 15 per cent of respondents do not recycle food waste, a decrease on last year (16.9 per cent).
The council is responsible for the collection, treatment, recycling and disposal of household recyclables and waste on the Island. This is delivered through a contract with its waste provider.
Councillor Lora Peacey-Wilcox, Cabinet lead for climate change, biosphere and waste, said: “Thank you to all the residents who took the time to complete the waste survey. Your opinion really matters to us.
“Your feedback helps make sure we provide the best service we can with our waste providers. I would also like to echo some of the residents’ comments and thank the collection crew and the HWRC staff. They are out in all weathers, making sure our waste services run smoothly.”
Natasha Dix, service director for waste, environment and planning, added: “I’d also like to thank residents for their feedback and support, not just in this survey but all year round. Your efforts to recycle more and reduce waste really make a difference.
“Your feedback is essential to help us understand where we can make improvements and what is already working well. We will continue to work with our waste service providers to make sure we are always listening.”
You said, we listened
In 2022, respondents commented that they would like to see same day bookings introduced. We listened and launched same day bookings in October 2023.
